My Story
dr mary sue stonisch

Having spent over 36 years as a dentist, I have gained invaluable insights and wisdom about life, work, and the delicate balance between them. The journey has taught me the importance of finding harmony between work and play, love and worship. It often feels like walking on a tightrope, and burnout is a constant concern in any profession. As I embark on the second half of my life, I find myself contemplating the next chapter. While many may envision walking off into the sunset and indulging in leisurely activities like pickleball, I feel a different calling. I believe it is my responsibility to share my life experiences and mistakes with young entrepreneurs, to guide them and help them navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is an exhilarating and rewarding endeavor, but it can also be overwhelming and exhausting. Burnout lurks around the corner, waiting to consume those who neglect self-care and fail to strike a healthy work-life balance. Through my years in dentistry, I have learned various tools and tricks to avoid the pitfalls that often lead to burnout. One of the most important lessons I have learned is the significance of prioritizing self-care. As entrepreneurs, we tend to immerse ourselves fully in our work, often neglecting our physical and mental well-being. I have found that by taking time for myself, engaging in activities that bring me joy, and nurturing my relationships, I am better equipped to handle the demands of my work. Another essential aspect of avoiding burnout is learning to delegate and ask for help. As entrepreneurs, we often take on numerous responsibilities, believing that we must handle everything ourselves. However, this mindset only leads to exhaustion and limits our growth potential. By delegating tasks and seeking support from others, we can focus on what truly matters and prevent burnout.

Additionally, maintaining a positive mindset and cultivating resilience are vital for navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. The journey is bound to be filled with setbacks and failures, but it is how we respond to these challenges that determines our success.

Through my own experiences, I have discovered the power of perseverance and the importance of learning from failure rather than succumbing to it. In sharing my experiences with young entrepreneurs, I hope to provide them with the necessary tools and insights to prevent burnout and thrive in their ventures. I aim to emphasize the significance of self-care, delegation, and resilience, while also encouraging them to find fulfillment beyond their work. Life is a delicate balance, and it is crucial to cherish moments of play, nurture relationships, and find solace in worship or spirituality.

As I transition into this new chapter of my life, I look forward to the opportunity to mentor and guide young entrepreneurs. By sharing my experiences and lessons learned, I hope to make their journey smoother and more fulfilling. Together, we can create a community of entrepreneurs who not only succeed in their businesses but also lead balanced and fulfilling lives.
